I found this in the comments section of an article on the Tea Party movement.
I am a conservative. I believe in:
Conserving the environment
Conserving a woman’s right to choose
Conserving the quality of life for the middle class
Conserving the rights of all people to live the life they choose with whom they choose in the way they choose
Conserving your right to believe in God and my right to deny god
Conserving my right to pursue a long and healthy life
Conserving the infrastructure that made this nation great.
I believe in paying my taxes, all of them.
I do not believe in loopholes, corporations having the rights of individual humans, congress having more access to health care than the poorest of the poor
Because I am a conservative.
Tea Party “conservatism” is not conservative; it is reactionary and racist.

Why do self-described fiscal conservatives get in a tizzy over the cost of programs that help their constituents live, but not over the cost of bombing foreigners?

A few of my favorites:
MYTH: The government-run plan will allow taxpayer funds to pay for abortions.
FACT: Private insurance companies already decide whether or not to cover abortions and consumers can choose a plan in line with their own beliefs…Abortion is not mandated any more than any other medical procedure in health care reform.
MYTH: We don’t need an overhaul of health care.
FACT: Yes we do. There are millions of people who can’t get health insurance. And those people cost you and everyone else with insurance more because they often can’t pay for the care they do receive. Your premiums go up each year in part to help cover the cost of those who can’t afford to go to the doctor and who end up having to go to the emergency room instead.
MYTH: A government option will result in health care rationing for Americans.
FACT: Health care is already rationed by insurance companies! Private insurance companies ration care to Americans every single day. They reject applications based on arbitrarily determined “pre-existing conditions” and family history. They rescind coverage after an illness has been diagnosed. Their premiums and deductibles are so high that millions of Americans are forced to delay care or declare bankruptcy due to high costs.
MYTH: Government-run health care will put a bureaucrat between you and your doctor.
FACT: There is already a bureaucrat between you and your doctor…it’s called the insurance company!

Obama won the election last November by 10,000,000 votes. A couple hundred thousand people protesting taxes on April 15 and railing against a President NONE of them voted for is as close to an inconsequential activity as one can get.

I really don’t understand how bipartisanship is ever going to work when one of the parties is insane. Imagine trying to negotiate an agreement on dinner plans with your date, and you suggest Italian and she states her preference would be a meal of tire rims and anthrax.
John Cole at Balloon Juice, referring to a budget stimulus discussion between conservative blogger Instapundit, uber-wingnut Michelle Malkin, and Joe “Are my 15 minutes up yet?” Wurzelbacher (aka, NOT Joe the NOT Plumber).

Ken Starr’s Clinton/Lewinsky investigation divided the country, took several years and cost millions of taxpayer dollars.
But we’re being told that an investigation into the Bush administration’s torture policies (you know, where actual laws were broken) would be “too partisan,” “take too long,” and “cost too much.”
Now, I know the country is in a financial bind right now; we clearly aren’t as well-off as we were during Clinton’s term (*sigh*). But surely an issue as important as the torture of another human being by agents of the United States merits at least a look-see.

The core of the Republican strategy is, in essence, riling up the rubes. And while the rubes are frothing about gays coming to steal their kids and Mexicans coming to steal their jobs, the Republicans and their backers get to max out the credit cards and stick the rest of the country with the tab.
