In stimulus discussions over the last few days, Republican lawmakers have dominated Democratic ones 2 to 1 on cable news, as represented by this handy chart:
…imagine the reaction if Rhandi Rhodes was penning editorials in the NY Times dictating the course of policy for the Democrats, and the Democrats were embracing her pearls of wisdom. I can’t believe the Republicans are going to gamble their future [on Limbaugh] like this, but then again, nothing they do surprises me.
This is interesting as well:
BTW- the best part of the Limbaugh stimulus is that he supports a 900 billion dollar stimulus, so I expect that means he will shut up about the size and cost of the bill, as it is clear that he doesn’t care that it costs that much, but what bothers him is that his share isn’t big enough.
Bill O’Reilly’s mendacity knows no bounds.
According to News Hounds, on his Jan 27 show Bill O’Reilly said, very authoritatively, that every Illinois Governor who went to jail was a Democrat.
This could not be more false.
Since 1929 six Illinois Governors have been indicted or convicted of corruption, three were Republicans and two were Democrats. Blagojevich can not be counted yet because he is not in jail, has not been indicted, and has not been convicted. In fact, the one Illinois Governor who did go to jail recently was George H. Ryan, and he is a REPUBLICAN.
Here’s what bipartisanship meant to Republicans: let’s say a Republican and a Democrat are stuck on a desert island. The Republican knows how to survive in the wild, the Democrat knows how to build a raft. They need each other, right? They’re stuck there, and while they may hate each other, they gotta work together or they’re gonna die on the island. While the Democrat is, you know, building the raft, the Republican is gathering coconuts, keeping the fire lit, you know, that kind of shit. It’s all nice and cooperative. And then, when the raft is done, the Republican slits the throat of the Democrat, eats his flesh, drinks his blood, and uses his bones and his clothes for a sail. Bye-bye, island.
The always hilarious and poignant Rude Pundit.
“Judgement” is technically the British spelling of the word, but whatever…
Oliver Wendell Holmes once said: “I like paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.” And I’ve always thought the Democrats should use that, should connect, at every opportunity, paying taxes and buying civilization.
Every time some bloviating nitwit conservative goes on about how the government never gave him nuttin’, the Democrats should say: “Oh, you’ve never used roads? Never mailed anything? Never logged on to the internet?”
And every time the Republicans talk about the Democrats wanting to raise taxes, the Dems should retort: “Yes, we want to raise taxes on those who can afford it, because with taxes, we buy civilization. We build schools and bridges and freaking spaceships. You got a problem with that?”
So, as expected, Sarah Palin has opted NOT to cooperate with an investigation into her “Troopergate” problem (Oh, how I hate the addition of the suffux “-gate” to any scandal. It’s been 40 freakin’ years people…)
What cracks me up is the excuse given:
The campaign insists the investigation has been hijacked by Democrats.
Right.
“Hijacked by Democrats”…despite a 12-0 vote (four Democrats and eight Republicans on Alaska’s Legislative Council) to launch the investigation, and a majority vote in a Republican-led state Senate Judiciary Committee to authorize subpoenas.
Also, I’m kinda scratching my head as to why this announcement dealing with a local Alaska issue was made by a McCain campaign spokesperson instead of, you know, maybe someone from the Governor’s office in Alaska…?
And of course the MSNBC story on this pretty much just quotes the McCain campaign verbatim and eschews pointing out these important facts and discrepancies.
a full-throated defense of progressive principles, devoid of mushy “centrist” crap
I couldn’t agree more, nor could I be happier.
Republicans did a better job selling bad ideas than Democrats did selling good ones.
