Jon Stewart and Samantha Bee discuss Sarah Palin’s viability among women voters.

When John met Sarah

John McCain first met Governor Sarah Palin at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington in February of 2008.

Basically, he’s known her for fewer months than he has houses.

ZING!

Sarah Palin

McCain’s VP pick is Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

A few things (my comments in italics):

  • She’s been in office less than 2 years. Inexperienced much?
  • Her husband, Todd, works for British Petroleum. Naturally.
  • She’s currently under investigation for “abuse of power.” Smart, McCain. Real smart.
  • She has 5 children: Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig. Trig is only 4 months old and has Down Syndrome. WTF is up with those names?! And…she’s going to embark on a national campaign with a 4-month-old with Downs!?!
  • She maintains an 80-90% approval rating in Alaska. That’s actually pretty impressive.

And, yeah, she’s pretty great-lookin’. (She finished second in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant in 1984.) But frankly, if anyone has pictures of Obama in bed with a 17-year-old male prostitute or something…now’s the time. Otherwise, McCain may as well throw in the towel.

Yay punctuation!

The case for Obama-Sebelius 2008

Random Internet Wisdom, politics, todd 1 Comment

I cannot conceive of a situation where the gender that composes 52% of the electorate will walk into the voting booth, see the name “Kathleen Sebelius” in big letters under the word “Vice President”, and think – “You know – that should be Hillary, so I will cast my vote with the anti-woman warmonger!”

The numbers don’t lie. Here’s a break down from my good friend Todd:

McCain can’t help himself

Per TPM:

Remember when McCain vowed to be a candidate of stature, denouncing campaigns that appeal to the lowest common denominator? Well, as of this week, the same McCain has released a video with the words “hot chicks dig Obama” in it. Seriously.

It’s not his fault!

The more offensive John McCain becomes as a candidate, the more leading media personalities will come up with rationalizations to defend his bizarre conduct. It’s like being graded on a very generous curve.

McCain’s ads and rhetoric against Obama has become increasingly slimy and negative, even delving into outright falsehoods. But the media loves McCain so much, and they’re so eager to protect him from criticism, that they’re actually trying to argue that he’s truly uncomfortable with his own campaign and is only being led along by his Rove-assisted advisors and staff.

Others have summed it up better than I, so here are some of their comments:

…McCain simply can’t lose when it comes to media adulation — if he runs a positive, substantive, issue-driven campaign, media personalities will sing his praises. If he runs a negative, dishonest, character-assassination-style campaign, media personalities will still sing his praises, blaming his team of Karl Rove acolytes for steering John the Great in the wrong direction.

and

John McCain is so honorable and straight-shooting that the only explanation for his campaign’s headlong dive into sleaze, xenophobia and gonzo bamboozlement is that McCain is so out of it and controlled by his advisors that he doesn’t actually know what they’re doing in his name.

(Just the kind of guy who should be president, right?)

Mind-boggling. Truly.

But listen to the average wingnut tell you that “the MSM is in the tank for Obama.” Riiiiiight…
