Nothing to see here, move along

As you may have noticed, dear readers (both of you), Chickenbutt is on indefinite hiatus. I am deliberately no longer neck-deep in political news so I have fewer political things to write about. I may, however, reinvent this blog to feature other content.

When I have time.

Which means I’ll get around to it.

RSS feed will likely be the same.

Hasta luego.

I’m a Twitter-er

In the unlikely event that you care, I’m on Twitter these days.

You may follow me, if you wish: pauld76

I’ve also added my Twitter tweet-feed to the bottom of my blogroll here on Chickenbutt. It’s down there…bottom-right…under “TWITTER.”

Happy birthday Rude Pundit

Today is the Rude Pundit‘s birthday. We wish him well.

I love his work and have often quoted him on my humble little blog.

More blog database problems

blog news Comments Off

So, I was out of town for a week and unable to blog. Then, upon my return, I found out that my site had been down because of the same old MySQL issues.

I’ve had enough. I’m contacting my hosting provider, Gate.com, and telling them the next time my site is down for more than an hour without good reason, I’m leaving for greener pastures.

It’s as simple as that.

Congrats Todd! Here’s wishing you and Christine all the best!

Speaking too soon?

Well, it looks like my hosting provider has their database shit back together. I’ve got about 10 posts ready to go. I can’t promise they’ll be as topical as they were when I conceived them…

In other news, I’m writing this post on my iPhone using the free WordPress app.

Database problems

blog news Comments Off

My hosting provider (Gate.com) is experiencing MySQL database problems. I can only access the site intermittently to make posts. Even the front page is spotty at best. They claim they’re working on the problem, but I have no idea when things will be back to normal.

I’m going to wait for it to smooth out a little. No posts for a couple more days.

Sit tight.

Crisis averted

I managed to get the tagging system working again.

It appears that a WordPress plugin I’d been using to manage tags and add tags to posts was either screwing with my existing tags or is simply not compatible with WordPress 2.6 (to which I recently upgraded.)

The plugin in question was Simple Tagging by Amaury Balmer. But bear in mind that it’s also equally possible that I, as a well-documented idiot, screwed something up. However, I’ve deactivated the plugin and have started using a different tagging plugin. Things appear to be OK.

Blog broken!

So I upgraded to WordPress 2.6 and now a few things around here are broken.

The “Popular Tags” widget on the right is not working properly. If you click on any tag you get a “not found” error. I don’t know exactly what’s wrong, but I’ve tried a few things. I’m going to scour the WordPress support forums and see what I can find.

You’ll notice that I’ve added a “Categories” widget too. It has occurred to me that I may have been using categories vs. tags a little improperly ever since I started this blog. I’m going to look into fixing that (provided it doesn’t require that I go back and modify almost 500 blog posts.)

More information later.

*sigh*

My readers (all three of you!) have probably noticed the dearth of posts lately.

I’m having trouble with my site hosting. Lately, anything that uses the MySQL database is slow as shit.

Even simple page-loads are slow. You can imagine how slow this background blog stuff is. Posting has become a tedious chore that takes far more time than it’s worth.

I’m going to complain to the hosting company and see if they can do anything. If I’m not satisfied, I will take my hosting business elsewhere (for the first time since I bought PaulD.net in 2002!)

RSS feed and site URL should remain the same regardless of how I choose to proceed, so don’t worry about having to update any links.

Stay tuned.
